The existing urban setting of the neighbourhood inspires a fresh architectural expression: the characteristic built-up of the quarter with ‘idle’ courtyards is being reconstructed into a functioning model. The proposed architecture of the gymnasium is unpretentious and clear, subtly blending into the urban fabric of Pilaitė area and adding warmth and colour to the dull environment of concrete buildings. Public spaces are being formed: courtyards, parks, rooftop terraces and amphitheatres that are intensely busy and full of life. The gymnasium is open to local residents, it is easy to use and adjust during and after working hours, thus fostering community spirit both in students and residents. The new architecture focuses on revitalization of courtyard spaces in the area and their adaptation to the needs of Pilaitė community.
